I decided to create a blog for the main purpose of encouraging myself to create or express once a week. I found after i came back from Cannes film festival and came down off my high, i felt so much pressure to be creating all the time and got disappointed if i was not being creative, working on my series “Out of Your Box”, Building my production business “Bella Boochew Productions” and even working another job just to stay a float. So i have now realised putting pressure on yourself doesn’t really get anything done quicker and makes one feel like shit! When i create things i tend to go all out and put a lot of energy into them and can be a bit of a nutty perfectionist. I take my art to heart and also seem to make the simplest things complicated. We live in such a fast paced world where many things are instant or churned out but It can take a while for projects to be completed. In the process i can get disheartened that i am not getting anywhere and will never EVER finish them! So i thought i need a small simple project that i get can complete once a week or month to feel better, to excite others to look at life around them and hopefully make EVERYONE SMILE, GIGGLE AND SNORT ABIT. I was racking my brain thinking about what i could do but it was staring me in the face!!! LIFE IS ART!
So with this blog, i wanted to explore the fact that life is art! You don’t have to visit a gallery to see it because the world is full of designs, nature, costumes, people and art surrounds us...even the way something has fallen, a shadow or something has happened by accident..is art! You don’t need to be so called “arty”, have a degree or work in the field. It is all about being human and seeing what is really there. It is everywhere - when you travel each day to work, school or just cruise around take a bit of time to look at things, keep your ipod off, take your eyes off your phone and try to not tune out from the world around you....even daydreaming is forbidden! ha!
FIRST ENTRY!
Well when i got back from my world wind red carpet extravaganza, i needed something that brought in reliable cash. That isn’t too time consuming and somewhere i don’t have to deal with people’s politics. Lets just say that call centres were off my list! When i was back in reality again i began to put a lot of pressure on myself and felt annoyed if i did not work towards my goals every day and spend every day being productive - working in my field or part time job.
I decided my perfect job would have to be in the morning and then i would have the rest of the day to write, film, edit and do other bits and pieces. My days are usually full of many things but people in full time jobs don’t ever seem to understand what i really do. I think in many ways it is much easier to wake up and go to an 8 hour full time job, even if you hate it because you know what your doing all the time or at least someone is telling you what to do...lets not forget the steady income for mass material enjoyment! We all like pretty things especially when we have worked so hard or feel unsatisfied. I have been there and have done that, i have also realised that when i have been in those jobs that something is missing. Plus i am not great with doing the same thing every day like a robot, i enjoy getting outside and i am not a fan of winging bout management and the power play that goes on in businesses. My days are usually jam packed but sometimes it is hard to know what to do first, how to fit in rest, try not to procrastinate and if i don’t do the work then i don’t get paid or i am set back another day/week. It can get pretty stressful and the sad thing is when things go wrong i can’t blame anyone else but myself. When i am not stressing myself out, the upside of being my own boss is i can enjoy my days, i don’t wish the hours away, i can go for lunch anytime and every day is different!!
PART TIME JOB
So i started doing cleaning at a university at 3am in the morning, i wont say which one but the name sound like what a frog makes...RRRRMMMIIITT... It was also the uni i studied at and a friend of mine said “Well at least they got you a job” I laughed my ass off. I always love how silly life is and how things always seem to come full circle! When i started working i couldn’t believe how many comments i got from people like your - “better then that, but you went to Cannes, but you work in film or my favourite is that it isn’t very Gina like!”. I was so weirded out by the fact that something i do for four hours to make money would effect others in such a way. When i went for the job i never thought about any of those things.
Wow! i wonder who are the people that work at that time?
It will be great to see the city before everyone wakes
I will enjoy doing something productive that has a point
least i wont have to talk to anyone
least i don’t have to work in a call centre again!
This should be a good work out, i will get super fit!
It could be a good story or good material
it is something grounding and down to earth to do.
I could learn something about myself or develop a better routine.
I will be able to have some cash and do my own work - steady income!
Not once did i say that i am too good to do this job or its not my thing so i wont do it. I would do anything to get my projects up and to survive. I find it funny that i was on a red carpet one month ago and now mopping the floor. I know that is not all that i do, but it is one of my jobs that i get paid for straight away. A job is not who you are! It is just a job, especially if it is not your passion. What i was most dumb founded by was the cleaners (who are all lovely and do many other jobs then cleaning, they are smart and warm people) saying why am i doing this? But you work in film? Cannes? And that i wont stay etc. In my eyes we all sleep, eat, shit and will die - for me i see us all on the same playing field. I know i should feel good that people think so much of me and see my potential but i feel sad that they don’t think much of themselves. Why is everything about status?? JOB, SCHOOL, CAR, HOUSE, PARTNER, FRIENDS, HAIR COLOUR! And really the more they say i shouldn’t do it and should be doing something else it seems to make me feel worse not better...some more added pressure!
I am a work in progress! (like most of us are) I enjoy the process and progress!! I am in transit! I enjoy having different experiences and pushing myself out of my box, so i can understand the world better and people....
So here is my first little project i thought i would capture - a day in the life...i never have one day that is the same as another...i even do my cleaning different each morning to mix it up....i hope you enjoy the journey!
2AM - WAKE UP!!!!!!
2.15AM- MORNING RANGA!
Sometimes i look like Ronald McDonald in the morning. When i look in the mirror it seems like i have been through a wind tunnel, in a washing machine on spin dry and a can of red paint has been chucked at my head!
2.30AM - DORIS IS EMPTY!!!
I try to fill up Doris at the local petrol station but it seems to not be working. A loud voice comes over the speaker saying “Number two pay inside”! Apparently at 2.30AM you have to pre pay. Well that was news to me....you learn something new every day! Also you realise that you are up early when people are still partying at “The Peel”....Daniel is that you?
3AM - START CLEANING!
Let me walk you through the day to day duties and the treasure i find along the way ****AAAaaarr me hearties*(pirate chatter)
Every super hero needs a tool kit!! I have a tool kit full of cleaning products, garbage bags and dunny brush! I clean a whole building to myself and that consists of three levels, computer rooms, lecture theatre and art studio’s....Which means i clean, mop floors and stair...plus clean three blocks of toilets...YUM CHA! least they put me in the arty building! ha!
LOOOK WHAT I GOT THIS MORNING!!! its always a girls dream to get a new scraper (fancy a pap smear?)
Its for those little critters that love to stick bubble gum on chairs, tables, stairs and anywhere really!
This one is always full to the brim and will be even worse when all the students and teachers are back.
old school bin - They should really get rid of these! They are heavy old 70’s bins that are just really a pain in the ass!
collection of little bins - this job has really taught me that we are a very lazy people because it is so pig headed and silly for each desk in an open plan office to have their own bin....get off your buns and walk two seconds to the big bin.
3.30AM - SECURITY!
It can be a tad spooky moving around the building with no one around and if you have not got enough sleep your eyes can play tricks on you. I always imagine opening the lecture theatre, popping on the light and finding someone dead...It is good to know that security always have my back!
HIGH TECHNOLOGY LISTENING DEVICES
They know whats going on!!
Here is me in action
EVERYONE LOVES A MONTAGE
I like variety in life and i have had many different jobs. There are some that are glamourous and some that are really not but to be able to laugh and learn things in every situation is what i like best.....From the red carpet to mopping the floor!! No job too big and no job too small! You gotta have a bit of fun and have a laugh....its all a good story!!
When cruising around the building i come across a lot of funny things or you could call them art!!
TREASURE FOUND!! ARRRRR!
Here is a collection of what i captured this morning. I think it is a great thing to look around your work space, home or even walk down a different to street to see what is around. I love what people add to their lives and surroundings to make it a little bit more interesting!

4AM - SPRAY AND WIPE
Spray and wipe all surfaces, windows, doorways and benches bitch!
spray all surfaces - This is my Angelina Jolie of cleaning
** Fierce ** Seductive
In your face!
*Blue wipe is for benches, windows and mirrors
*Pink one is for wiping where your ARSES sit!
FRIENDS - JUST LIKE THE SHOW!
I have a few friends at work - This is Sammy the Silver fish, he likes to hang out in the kitchen! EWWW!
5AM - THE TOILETS, THE THRONE, THE LOG THROWER
It is always a scary time of the morning when you check out each toilet to see if you are going to get a good morning surprise....As i approach each cubical i usually sing to myself the teddy bears picnic song -
if you go out in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.
Men’s toilets always smell awful....why is that?? Are they like an old tom cat that leave their mark on everything.... that bloody tom cat! REOWWWWWWWW
You Guys are lucky that i could only find a sleepy POO cause a lot of the time it is like an explosion has gone off in the men’s toilets!
INTERVIEW WITH NUMBER TWO
I enjoy interviewing and everyone has an opinion - “Opinion’s are like assholes, everybody’s got one!” So where better to go then straight to the throne to speak to number two and get the low down on the loo situation
**Good Morning Australia**
Guest this morning is number two ”How are you this morning?”
*Number two - “I feel like shit!”*
I made sure i had a tight grip on my phone while taking these pics. I was thinking get the shot but don’t blooooooody drop your iphone in the loo!
6AM - VACUUMING
**Backpack Vacuum**
It is a vacuum jet backpack! i really feel like i am not sucking up dirt but actually am one of the guys from Ghost Busters - Who you going to call??
6.30AM - MOPPING
Everything needs to be mopped every morning from the toilets, floors and stairs.
***Here is a wet love heart for you all! **
** 3 levels of stairs to mop***
I have to mop all floors and stairs. I can totally see how you can have accidents at work especially walking backwards down stairs while washing them.
When i am mopping i always think a buffer would get this out way better!! I then start singing
“And then i like to buff that shit out, why?? Cause i’m a lady’s man, a lady’s man a la,la,la,la,la lady’s man.” Reggie Watts

7AM - FINISH SHIFT, SIGN OFF AND SHOOT OUT!
I cruise home in Doris, the sun is coming up and everyone is heading to work to start their day. Its always nice to go home to someone in my bed...well not just someone... Its either my lovely bf or Dimmy my cat.

***RILO***
who is always full of cuddles and is so warm on these cold winter mornings. He is like a little human heater, made in italy.
*** DIMMY***
Dimmy is usually curled up on the bed and when i turn the light on she lifts her head up, blinking her eyes at me because of the bright light. She reminds me of an old man waking up and not being able to find his glasses.
7.30AM - FEED DIM SIM
Dimmy lets me know that she is starving! i can’t have a starving pussy can i?
7.45AM - BREAKFAST - PINCH CHEESE OFF HOUSE MATE
Usually i would go to sleep as soon as i get home and then try to get up around 10 or 11am. This never seems to happen as i have been working out for four hours and usually not getting much sleep beforehand so the body crashes....dam you body!! Keep on going dam you! Today i am not going to go to sleep cause i have so much on...maybe a little nanna nap later.
*** It is hard to get up when you have this sitting on your chest purring like a V8***
1:00PM - LUNCH
1.30PM - VISIT TO THE JOB AGENCY
While i was waiting to see my job seeker guru....don’t worry they were only running half an hour late, if that was me i would be crucified but seeing i am just blogger haha i mean blugger with lots of time....ummm INCORRECT GENERALISATION!! Busy as a beaver!! I noticed the word “JOB” on one window and then looked at the other window to see that it was reversed. I thought it was very amusing that it spelt the word “DOL”!! hahahahah! NO LOL’s from me hahaha is how i like to roll!! Old school!
2PM - RUDDER - COMMUNITY ART CENTRE
We are making puppets to tell the story of little Red Riding hood and do a projection at the Gertrude street Projection festival. The puppets were created by us and instructed by the Snuff Puppets, i would of liked to have done more but due to these crazy hours i’ve been working i could only do some painting and shoot a bit of green screen footage. It is great to do something physical and creative! There is nothing more satisfying then having an idea, creating it and seeing where it goes.
Gertrude Street Projection festival
22 to 31 July 6.00pm - midnight
Gertrude Street comes alive at night with a week of projected media. Walk, ride or drive through our outdoor gallery by night.
24 sites will project moving, still and installation work where you least expect it.
***** This is me with the Wolf head on, it is a pretty heavy contraption....breathing plus seeing is not easy....but it looks great!! ***
Great work everyone at Rudder!!
2.30PM - 7PM EDITING - This is a very short day for me when it comes to editing!! Usually it is more like 12 hours!
****studio space *****
***Editing footage for a client**** *** headphones on and ready to start***
END OF DAY AND OFF TO DINNER WITH FRIENDS.......THEN REST......THEN START AGAIN........NEW DAY.....NEW ADVENTURE......
I had a blast putting this together and capturing my day. It was good to slow down a bit and take in what i do, appreciate my surroundings and the little things that makes life grand! I hope i have inspired you to go and capture your day and have fun in whatever you do. It’s best not to take life too serious as nobody gets out alive!!
I think we all move too quickly and we don’t really see what is really around us. We spend way too much time inside buildings, houses, on the internet, in our own minds and in front of the television. Explore your own world and what makes you smile from time to time. i would love YOU to capture your own day just like this or even send me pictures that you have captured because life is art! feel free to send me an email at outofyourbx@gmail.com
Love... love... love...

Mammoth first post! Really enjoyed it, especially eavesdropping on your thought processes and spying on your cleaning routine. Fascinating! Really! I've never cleaned a uni but find doing it at home quite meditative, and I get why you'd find the not having to deal with people thing appealing fo sure! I also share the dilemmas and benefits that working for yourself brings. Looking forward to the next perve.
ReplyDeleteThanks hun it is my first entry so i kind of went to down even thou i told myself to make it short and simple. I have a hard time in making things simple...they get bigger and bigger! The next post will be smaller and sweeter! xx
ReplyDeleteLove hearing the feed back so thank you
Really enjoyed reading this Gina! I especially like how you dont think things are "below" you to do... I totally feel that way and have always wondered why more people dont.
